A human character needs a photo-derived cartoon avatar before joining a generated story. Human reference photos are processed temporarily; the generated cartoon is saved, not the original. Pets use a separate flow: their original reference photos are stored to guide personalised illustrations and automatically scheduled for deletion after 30 days. You must be a child's parent or legal guardian to upload their photo. Read the photo privacy policy before uploading.
Understanding the Limitations

- Capacity limits and focus: Every account can save up to 8 characters in its family profile, but any single storybook can feature at most 3 selected characters. Deleting saved characters is a Club member feature. Pick the people central to this particular adventure rather than trying to include the whole extended family.
- Transient storage for humans: We do not store your uploaded human photos. If you wish to recreate an existing human character in a completely different artistic style in the future, you may need to provide a reference photo again. This is a privacy measure designed to keep your family data secure.
- Illustrated likeness: The resulting characters are cartoon interpretations, not exact photographic reproductions. Check the proposed character carefully before approving it. A recognisable hairstyle, familiar glasses and suitable age matter more than expecting the illustration to reproduce every detail of the original photo.
Practical Steps for the Best Results
The difference between a good avatar and a great one often comes down to lighting and pose. Keep these guidelines in mind:
- Clear, front-facing expressions: Choose photos where the subject is facing the camera directly or at a slight angle. Profiles and extreme angles can confuse the generation engine. Natural, even lighting works best. Avoid heavy shadows across the face, which can distort features.
- Solo shots are heavily preferred: Crop the photo so only the intended subject is visible. This prevents the system from getting confused about who to turn into an avatar. If you upload a group photo, the engine might select the wrong person.
- For pets, prioritize coat color and face shape: If adding a dog or cat, pick a photo that clearly shows their unique markings. Action shots or sleeping poses often hide the very details that make your pet recognizable. A straightforward, well-lit sitting pose is ideal.
- Remove obscure accessories: Hats, thick sunglasses, and heavy face paint can obscure key features, making the resulting cartoon less recognizable as your loved one. If they wear glasses daily, leave them on, but avoid tinted lenses.
